Ultra Fin - Pros & Cons

Maybe some panel radiators, or even baseboard will work better than Ultra Fin. Ultra Fin is a sub-par design in my opinion, and unless your heat requirements are very minimal, the combination you describe won't perform very well. A small boiler with some panel radiators would be a nice combination. Maybe some extruded plate in the bathroom/kitchen run off a 3-way mix valve. Just about any other method will out-perform Ultra Fin.

    Ultra Fin Radiant

I am considering using the Ultra Fin System and generating hot water from an electric hot water heater. Can anyone tell me whether they have used the product and the sucess or failure of such? I plan to heat @ 1250 sq feet off an 80 gal hot water heater.

Thanks in advance for your input!

    Ultra fin

We installed the Ultra fin in a house and used a water heater for the heat source. It will not get hot enough for the fins to work. An 80 gallon water heater is a waste of money. Get a small boiler and P/S the piping. You will need every bit of 160 degree water to make it work. If I was you I would put the tubes on 8" centers with aluminum pans[extruded al. are best]. Use a Munchkin or Buderus boiler. They modulate and can take the cool return water. There is another boiler called the Quietside you might look at. It also makes DHW.

    Here's what I did

I called Ultra-Fin and asked to speak to their engineering department. They don't have one.

If you have an issue with that system, who will you call for an answer?

    Amen!

Buyer beware. Buy that system and you will surely hang yourself. When it doesn't work, there will be no-one that can tell you why.

    Just Arrived

It just arrived at the supply house. I saw the DVD and the literature. I'm not going to experiment with it.
