all his closed loop systems (chapter 3 & 4) show the pump pumping towards the PONC and scoop/ expansion tank!

I'd like to see him address this on page 36, expansion tank paragraph.

Someone needs to send him a copy of "Pumping Away" :)

He also recommends Prestone Lotox and Sierra automotive PG glycols. I feel hydronic or solar specfic glycols should be used.

    THE best solar book...

    hasn't been written yet. I was going to talk to HR this weekend while were out floatin on a boat near Las Vegas :-)

    I made the mistake of googling 'solar'...I got 314 MILLION hits in 7 one HUNDREDTHS of a SECOND. That works out to an ENOURMOUS solar hits per millisecond (calculator errored out on me:-)

    And from that one googling, I've determined I'm NOT in the right business (or STATE for that matter...).

    Yeah, hard to choose what to read. I've been buying a lot of the old books from the '70s of late. Google William Beckman or Sanford Klein as starting points for old stuff. Go to www.fchart.com for design software by Beckman and Klein.

    Tom Lane's book seems to have some real world information that is worthwhile--Mind you, I'm a searcher myself, the old solar pros will comment more appropriately. SOLAR HOT WATER SYSTEMS, 1977 to TODAY, LESSONS LEARNED by Tom Lane. In its 26th or 27th edition. Mine is copyrighted 2003. www.ecs-solar.com. ASHRAE has technical books, of course.

    The Munchkin folk of Milwaukee will debut their new integrated solar system tomorrow in Milwaukee. Drainback. AET panels. Should be interesting, as currently we only get incentives in WI for closed loop glycol systems. They say that will soon change.

    PV gets the glory

    But solar thermal is where it's at. Think of how much fuel and electricity could be saved by installing a sdhw system in everyone's home. It's simple, long lasting, and there are no sacrifices asked of the homeowner.
