replacing old oil boiler

My sister-in-law just bought a house with a 30 year old 4 section weil mclain oil fired boiler with domestic coil.
Looking at replacing it this summer with a new oil boiler like a burnham v84 with domestic coil or their new mpo boiler with 40 gallon alliance indirect or a contractor wanted to bid a new yorker frhgs steel oil fired boiler with a 40 gallon indirect water heater.
going from one heating zone to two heating zones and one zone for the indirect water heater.
the homeowner said they were using about 900 gallons of oil per year.
what kind of savings per year can be expected with putting in a new oil boiler with coil vs new boiler with indirect water heater? can the savings be 20 - 30%??
your input will help her decide what kind of boiler to put in.
thanks bob eck

I wouldn't consider a steel dry base boiler or a pin- type cast iron for that matter. Fuel oil here is approx $3 a gallon today.Just about any triple pass with an indirect and Outdoor Reset will pay for itself in the long run.A heat loss is mandatory much of the fuel savings is in proper sizing

I'd say...
With the MPO and an indirect, the fuel usage will remain only a bit less than before,if the old boiler was properly sized.Btu's lost = btu's needed. They'll be less for standby and hot water demands, BUT (and that's a big but) spending money on the envelope in addition to the new units will help it to pay for itself faster.
A great boiler and water heater are definately an asset, but making the home tighter and needing less heat to keep the occupants happy will make it all the more a better investment. JMHO. Chris0 -
Heat Loss
How many room house are we talking? A four section boiler using 900 gal per year with a coil. Definately get a heat loss done, it sounds like some one automatically sized a four section boiler because that is what is there, but was the existing one sized right. Or is it steam? If your sister-in-law is using the same oil company as the previous owner have them look up the annual fuel usage, 900 gallons isn't bad.

Forget the coil
Dont be cheap . Use a good indirect fired water heaer . You can not put a price on being able to have the Wife take a hot bath . If you want effecincy , please look into an Energy Kinectiks System 20000
