required. Depends on the wattage, etc. Some elements with real high wattage density need flow across them.

As noted above, follow the manufactures directions to avoid problems and potential warranty issues.

Best way to pipe a low mass electric Boiler

I was just looking for some thoughts on what is considered the best way to pipe a low mass elec. boiler? Any help will be greatly appreciated. It's about 3000 sq. ft. and one zone. Is Primary/Secondary the best or just pipe it boiler supply to manifold supply, and from the return manifold to the return of the boiler.

    In general

If you are zoning, you will want to use pri/sec or a differential pressure bypass. Keep the flow rate high through the boiler. And, as always, follow the manufacturer's piping recommendations.

  • flow is essential

with electric boilers. as above, if you have any kind of zoning at all a pressure bypass or primary/secondary is a must. if the boiler fires with no or too little flow the elements will short-cycle like mad and you will burn out the contacts, which over time can weld themselves closed until boiler blows off all its water and the elements burn out. not fun! :(
