    That looks very useful

I bookmarked that site to play with. I see coal listed in the tables. I wonder how many people out there still have a residential coal burner of some sort. A buddy of mine in Lehighton, PA still has a operational coal stove in his Moms house complete with the auger to move the coal. Neat. Steve, how is the mutiple Vitodens install coming out?

Darin, I live in North Central PA a little town called Catawissa there are several folks in our small community (population 1200) that still heat their homes with coal. A few right on my street.

I'm very close to what is known around here as the coal region. 30 minuets from Shamokin where I would bet 20 % or more of the residents are still using coal for heat and hot water. I’m only 20 minuets from Centralia where the mines have been burning underground for years now.

    Steve, Great Link!

Yes, it is truly incredible. I could drive out there right now and I guarantee there would be smoke bellowing from the holes in the mountain.

    I think

National Geographic had an article about underground coal fires just a month or two ago. IIRC, estimates are that there are over 1,000 such fires burning in China right now. Is Centralia the town that was abandoned because parts of it were caving into the old mine shafts?
