scrap copper plumbers gold

It sounds like you've struck gold until thieves walk away with anything of yours that is copper or copper color. $1.75 per pound does not replace your purchase price or your labor.

It's around 1.75 $/lb here too and higher, scrap steel just went up yesterday to 100 $/ton while good scrap cast iron is going much higher.

Copper gutters have become a frustrating problem. If there are any on your home, your church or your customers' buildings, be advised to paint them all with heavy tar at least hiding them and lowering their scrap metal value.

The crooks and the homeless bums that rip them off of buildings now know that the charming vert-de-gris means copper cash. So much so, they have put aside the ripping of aluminum siding for awhile. Aluminum scrap hasn't been going anywhere. Strangely it's about the only scrap metal not going through the roof.

Look for copper flashings too. If applicable, smear grease on your downpours to prevent anyone from climbing your roof.

    Hmmmm....

... at those prices, people also may need to try and find ways to protect their condenser units. I have seen some condensers get mangled before, some even that were caged for protection.

Worse, it's not like it "cannot happen here" either. I personally chased a stalker (9PM and in the rain) on our property away.

A lady down the street woke up to her new Corolla missing all 4 tires... and the dealer insisted she'd flat bed the thing back to the repair shop. I don't want to know what the underside of the car looked like afterwards, but a tech in a cab with 4 tires would have been more humane...

Can't live your life in constant fear though.

    I'll tell you how

    Freakin expensive its getting ....

Here's a picture from the security camara of the **** that took a 5 gallon drum full of copper from the front of my shop. Unfortunalty the other photo of them driving in has a glare from the light and you can't see the licence plate number. I gave it to the police and they could'nt see anything either.

These guys drove up to my shop at 7:18 and took a barrel of copper and emptied into thier car and screwed.

Even with that we got over a 1,000.00 dollars.

I split it amoung the guys whcih makes the happy.

These other guys will get thiers at some time. Karma.

    Scott

    My favorite Copper Karma Story

About 10-15 years ago there was a mixed income high rise development here in Boston. Part of the program was emergency power for the elderly, fire alarm, generator, life safety.

Part of this was the use of MI cable. Copper outer ground, mineral insulation and a 480 Volt core conductor.

Looks like soft temper copper pipe about 3/4" size...despite the orange and black "480V" stickers.

Some presumably substance-challenged individuals saw scrap copper. They also saw a blinding flash -probably.
Visiting hours were 2-4 and 6-8 PM....

Since that time there was a movement to place the 480V stickers on other copper piping but such has not materialized.....

    It seems

that the terrorists have taken over the home front. Perhaps we can apply for some of those $Billions for WMD's - "Weapons for Metals Deception".
