Gurgling sound from boiler

I have the boiler set to come on at 5:30am in the mornings, which is when i hear this annoying sound. Its like rust particles boiling viciously and hitting against the walls of the boiler. Like a "ping ping" sound and sometimes sound like someone using an adjustable and tapping the pipes. How do i resolve this, thanks.

What does the gauge say? Pressure? Temp? We just gotta know these things...An undersized loop running by itself may cause boiling due to lack of flow through the boiler...a crackeling sound. Low pressure / air will cause the pumps to gurgle.

Perhaps your boiler is scaled up?

Here are some random suggestions by a jet-lagged homeowner...
    • I'd consider sending a boiler water sample to George Rhomar Water systems and see if they can recommend a cleaning solution to fit your bill. Any professional ought to be able to infuse the cleaner into the system, let it do its work, followed by the inhibitor two weeks later.
    • Other possibilities include a very high temperature setting on the boiler aquastat (which may not be necessary) if this is a hot water system.
    • It could also be a controls issue. If I read your description correctly, your boiler may be shut off all night until the power comes back on at 5:30 AM.
      • Are any heating zones calling for heat at that time, or are these startup noises?
      • Some boilers are not meant to be "cold-started" and may protest as a result. Reducing the depth of the setback at night (on the boiler aquastat, not inside the house) might reduce the startup noises you're hearing as well.
Either way, sounds like you need to bring someone into the house who has had to deal with this before. Have you tried using the "Find a Pro" service?

IS it Steam or hot water

If it sounds like little demons hitting the pipe with a small hammer than " You Got Steam ".

    Gurgling sound from boiler

Hey Constantin your very warm with the clues you suggested to look for. Yes this is a startup noise that dies down "a little" after running a while. I have no zones valves, but i have 3 pumps, one for each floor.I lowered the setpoint a couple days ago by 1 degree (too Hot) and the noise was reduce big time. Whats the reasoning behind that? controls? The setpoint on the boiler aquastat if i remember correctly is 200F. The basement has a t-stat that brings on its pump only when "its" aquastat temp. (in parallel)is reached, 120F. The lowest temp. is 68F, highest 72F. I do air a/c work so i'm very handy. This boiler (slant fin) only started to do this this winter.
