new boiler selection

I am a homeowner in need of a replacement gas/steam boiler in my victorian home with 537.26 sq.ft. of steam radiation.

I have narrowed down my choices to the following:

Burnham Independence 8 (202,000 btu )

Weil McLain EG 65-1 (203,000 btu)

The Burnham as natural draft venting. The Wel McLain has an auto vent damper. Which is better?

Both units offer (a)standing pilot or spark iginition,(b) probe or float low water cutoff. I am interested in reliability and energy efficiency. Is this possible?

Given my concerns and your knowledge, which one would you choose?

Your feedback is appreicated.

You are very close to the EDR needed with the EG 55, if you insulate the mains and work on the buildings envelope you may just "get away with it". I think the standing pilot, w/probe type LWCO would be more reliable. I know, I know, it is a little under as per the EDR and I'm sure the wall will have little mercy on me, but that extra couple of gallons of water you are going to heat up the next 40 years may mean the difference between Yale & Brown for the kiddies based on the way the utilities keep going up. If you are worried about it working, don't, It'll work.
