Thermostat for cast iron hot water

While getting a quote for a new boiler the estimator mentioned that I have the wrong type of thermostat for my heating system. Old 1918 hot water system with cast iron radiators.
I've poked around on the net and as far as I can tell all 24v thermostats are basicly the same and there is nothing that differentiates between different heating systems.
I got the impression that the one he was talking about would come on earlier to allow for the time it takes to bring the water temp up.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Mark
