Routine Maintenance

I've read "We Got Steam Heat". I'm looking for more information on what to do to maintain what's already working. What do I do routinely, I check the water levels in the glass tubes every couple weeks, they don't change much, should I be doing anything else? What do I do when I shut the heat off for the summer season? The basics, I guess, I don't want to wait till I have a problem.

Routine Maintenance
I recently bought my first home, complete with a one pipe steam heating system. I am looking for a resource with information on how to perform routine maintenance. Most of the books I've found are great for troubleshooting problems but none spell out simply what I need to do to keep my system in prime operating condition.

Get Dan's book "We Got Steam Heat" at a minimum. For more depth also get "The Lost Art of Steam Heating".0 -

As a homeowner with one pipe steam who has both books. Listen to Mike and get them.0
