Wayne Power Gas Burner for WM Steam Boiler

A BTU is a BTU, whether its gas , oil, or peat that it comes from.

As stated before, it's all personal preference. I'm an old oil guy (no pun intended), so I lean toward the oil, but I'm me.

I don't really think that you will see any large scale savings by converting.

Wayne Power Gas Burner for WM Steam Boiler

With the price of oil going sky high, does it make any sense to install a Wayne Power Gas Burner to switch out from my Carlin burner that has a 1.1 GPM nozzle in it? My gas line is close to the boiler, so the plumbing would be minimal.

Is the heat transfer from a gas power burner exhibit comparable efficiency, i.e. will 100,000 BTU of gas transfer the same heat to the boiler as 100,000 BTU of fuel oil?

Has anyone done this for a residential boiler? My boiler is a new SGO-4.

    conversion burner

You may also want to look at Midco burners. Midco is located in Chicago, but has distributors and representatives all over. Ask for Charlie Aiello at Midco and he can direct you to the right people to help you.

I like Midco conversation burners for exactly what you are trying to do.

    Good Luck

    3rd option

If you are committed to going gas, check out Carlin EZ Gas burner, user friendly and would work well in that application.
  • Why not put in

a Carlin to replace a Carlin. What is the input?

I have a manual available for sale that covers installation from A to Z on gas conversion burners. I have installed over 3,500 of these and I am sure I can help you out.

Feel free to give me a call at 401-437-0557 after 8:00 PM any day but Thursday.

    Oil vs Gas efficiency

If you look at combustion efficiency tables you will see that oil has a higher efficiency for a given stack temperature and excess air reading. I believe that is because oil generates less water vapor per pound of fuel to draw latent heat up the stack (less hydrogen in the fuel to make water vapor - more carbon to make carbon dioxide. In large boiler plants, oil can give you better efficiency by a few percentage points, particularly with the heavier oils that have more carbon double bonds and less hydrogen in the fuel. I don't know what the story is for residential boilers. It would be interesting to hear from some of the techs say who regularly test both with combustion efficiency analyzers.
