Gas licensing in MA

license (MA CoC) has NO bearing on the servicing of gas whatsoever, FACT!

Read some of this if you want the REAL DEAL!

http://www.mass.gov/dpl/boards/pl/index.htm

Only an employee of a gas utility or a gasfitter may make repairs to a gas burner. After the gas valve (as stated) there's not much left but the burner(s) itself.

However, with an unrestricted heavy oil license the service tech may make adjustments of the pilot or main burner of a gas/oil burner but may not change components.

BTW, this is the LAW that licenses oil burner techs, please note, no mention of gas.

As an oil burner tech in Mass, what is the minimum licensing needed to be albe to replace gas furnaces and waterheaters? As I understand it the Oil Burner Technician License allows us to make repairs to gas equipment after the gas valve, but to open a gas line what is the minimum license needed?

Journeyman Plumber, and Journeyman Gasfitter are two that can,.. but is there anything else that doesn't require apprenticeship?

    Thanks,
