copper for steam

Returns are OK. Keep the supply in black steel; it will last longer.

Does anyone pipe steam boiler supply's with copper? Any thoughts? Replacing steam boiler was planning on piping wet returns with copper and supply with steel. Someone told me you can pipe supply with copper. Was unsure

    We like

to do all the pipng for steam replacements with steel. The expansion rates are better.

I would NEVER do steam headers in copper, the joints just can not take the heat.

would not risk the use of copper on the supply . Not worth the aggravation if the soldered joints fail . That being said , we do see a few steamers piped in copper . The 1st pic was piped out at least 3 decades ago , the boiler was still running when we replaced it .

The 2nd pic is a partial main made of copper , the customer told us he couldn't remember how long it's been in , but it was a long time .
