The Reality
of what day it is hit me as I was driving through Floral Park, NY this afternoon on my way to Rockville Center, NY for a couple of days of training. I passed a little girl walking down Tulip Avenue with a Fireman's helmet and an American Flag holding her Mom and Dad's hands. As Dan always says so well...."Hug your kids!".

My little girl
starts school tomorrow. Four years ago her big brother was getting on a bus and heading off to his first day of school just as the planes carrying the murderous terrorists were taking off. One of the planes flew right over Albany, NY on its' way to death.
Many have forgotten that day. Many have watered down the act of barbarism commited that day.
I have not.
I remember.
I will NEVER forget.

That was definitely a common sight today, Glenn. Gave us all time to reflect and be thankful for who we have in our lives.0 -

Perhaps this is not the place,,,
to discuss this rather sensitive topic. The power of empathy calls upon me to state the following;
I understand it's natural to share/vent global events with people whom you respect and it helps us get through this infamous day in history but, this isn't DR. Phill's site and you're not the only one that gave today. Some of us lost friends and others family on 9/11.
If you're looking for some kind of positive external validation for a generous contribution made, there are other forums geared for this purpose. Sorry if this seems a bit harsh but, you guys know me by now and understand I have no inner dialog. I say (type) what I feel. It's up to Dan to edit or deleate what is said here and I sincerely hope you all understand why I felt compelled to write these words. I wish and prey tonight: all Americans well and remain vertical.
This forum as I understand it , is for heating discussions. So, let's talk about how cold it's getting at night and how we will continue to bring indoor comfort to homeowners that need us.

Gary
There are countless requests on this "heating" forum for donations to special causes. Never saw you post against any of those.
Yup, HH.com is a heating site. But it is a heating site in AMERICA. I was on the Wall four years ago and I remember the wallies reaction to what happened. Wallies as a group of AMERICANS banded together. Do you have a problem with that?
These folks are remembering the dead. No different than Memorial Day. What is it that bothers you about honoring the memory of fallen Americans?

A bomb mistakenly destroyed
the home of Gary Wallace tonight, instead of the home of Garria Ahmed Wallach & family....Oh well, life goes on.
It doesn't though, does it Gary. If that happened to you, everyone here would be genuinely devastated, and would grieve for you, no false empathy.
Empathy means putting oneself in another's place, feeling exactly what they feel (try some Bob Dylan).
People who are unable or incapable of feeling compassion for others & their pain, are generically called sociopaths.
Some will say (think), "I just don't feel anything for them, it's their pain, not mine, I don't feel it". Isn't existentialism convenient? (read Albert Camut).
Oh what bliss.
This is the real world Gary, it doesn't revolve around radiant heat. It revolves around people.
So far, the only way I've been able to contribute anything to my fellow man, was to make far more dinner (BBQ) than I normally would, and take it to my new neighbours in the camp across the street, in the woods. They are a nine person family from N.O. living in a 400 sq/ft hunting cabin.
Did it make me feel good, yes it did. But I just had dinner with, and made nine new freinds.
These folk are thinking about leaving N.O. and moving here because of the way they were treated in Indian Village and Kinder, L.A.
This site is not about heating, it's about people PLUS heat.
I'm broke, & have been unemployed for 6 weeks, but I feel better now than I've felt in a long time.
I'm not picking at you, Gary, but please think twice.
This isn't just a feel-good site, it's a real-good site.

It's still with me
I flew home from Orlando with my daughter yesterday, on 9/11. We had a nice daddy/daughter quick vacation. I had a funny feeling about flying on 9/11 but to be honest, the flight couldn't have been better -- and this on an airline that is using replacement workers to keep us safe and get to our destination on time. Hats off to Northwest Airlines -- my flight was early and flawless.
And hats off to the people, like Mark, who remember and appreciate the memory that forever burns inside of us.0 -
Marianne and I spent yesterday
working at the site. Here are some photos.
At one point, sky-writing planes flew over the site and printed, "UNCLE JACK" We all watched, thinking this was a wonderful tribute. But then the planes continued to write and this is what was in the sky directly above The Pit:
"UNCLE JACK'S STEAKHOUSE."

Very nice!
I thought you might be there. Seeing things on TV reminded me of your family's previous service on the site & the emotions that stirred.

I didnt know at the time
But I heard the Jets from Otis, taking off. I had no clue as to their mission. As I am typing, I am crying. For those in New York, for those in New Orleans.

Hey Dan who were those squids in the pic? Were they from a ship or an honer guard?
They all must be busy folk, thats alot of salad on their chests. There was an error rendering this rich post.

All stationed in New Orleans,
and they all rode bikes to NYC. How about that?Retired and loving it.0 -
I do love the squids....
and also those coasites. I was one of them, but not a bike. It was before 911, before New Orleans. I love this country now, as I did then. I will go any place, any time for her. If I am wrong, then there are a ton of misplaced Marines, and Army personell.
I thank god every day I live in this county, and I may have missplaced loyalty, you may not agree. That is fine, I will fight to the death, to defend your right to tell me I am wrong.

You are a good man. Many more people should feel as you do instead of spewing hatred at their own country. We took a moment of silence at the Air Guard base yesterday at the time the first aircraft had flown into the WTC. We were practicing our chemical warfare skills. So that if we have to operate in a area where WMD's are used against us, we WILL survive. By the way I was in the third aircraft that flew over the U.S. taking us to Stewart ANGB to convoy into the city. God Bless America

Look for a lengthy e.mail from me or perhaps you should call me to resolve this. Again?
