What is the rule of thumb for how many gpm you would typically see in a 1" pipe on a hot water heating system? I'm guessing maybe... 8?

I am more conservative I guess....
I may lose points with the air entrainment crowd, but the supply house people named a water heater after me, I think.:)
I generally size my piping based on about 2.4 feet of head per 100 feet of pipe. Here is my "in my head" pipe sizing table:
1/2" = 1.5 GPM
3/4" = 3.0 GPM
1" = 5.0 GPM
1-1/4" = 9.0 GPM
1-1/2" = 18 GPM
2" = 30 GPM
2-1/2" = 50 GPM
3" (Big House!) 70 GPM
Of course, you really should never "see" 8 GPM in a 1" pipe. You could lose an eye.
