Loud banging noise from boiler

I'm with Bruce. If the banging doesn't start until the water reaches a certain temp(below about 220 at 12 psi) i'd be looking for a water leak under the floor if any of your piping is buried. Minerals are making their way to the boiler, settling, and the perculating the water. As an aside, I don't think parts for that boiler are available in the US anymore. We can't get them here anyway.

    Loud banging noise from boiler

In my personal home I have a 145.000 Vaillant gas fired hot water boiler approximately 11 years old. For the first time, this year whenever the burners are on, there is a loud banging or knocking noise coming from the boiler. Does not matter if the boiler is first starting or has been running for a while. Water goes out at 190, returns at 160.
Happens every time, whenever the burners are on, the banging noise is present. When the circulator pump runs with the burners off, silent. PLEASE HELP!!!
    Thank you for your time.

    Sounds like

your making steam in a closed system, may be a couple of factors, to much heat from the burner on a section or sediment in the boiler and water is turning to steam trying to get out, you need a pro to find out why.

    I also agree

If the sound starts as soon as the unit fires, you probably have sediment in the bottom of the boiler. Tough to clean out. What is the current pressure on the boiler? Also what is the temps indicated by your guage?

Jim , have you replaced the zone valves recently ...

or captive air tank.....bleeding off the air at the high point of the boiler will give you a quick clue....hit the boiler relif valve an see if air is locked in the pipe leading to it....Have a happy day by calling someone to help you or an invaluable experience working at it :)
