Jennings Vacuum Pump

I have a Jennings Vacuum pump on a job and no info on same.
This unit has a steam vent pipe on the top of the chest, and a 2nd pipe coming off the left side of the chest(if facing back of pump). This 2nd pipe is installed in a manifold which contains the small line that feeds the pump seal. Problem is that when the pump starts, a lot of water spits out of this 2nd pipe even though the pipe extends upward at least 8 feet. No water or steam leaving thru the chest vent pipe, just the 2nd pipe. Also, not sure how to properly check/set this pump up. Should this pump run to maintain a vacuum on system, or just when tank fills up.

    bill, heres a link to thier website www.nash-jennings-htg.com/nash.html also recommend you check out "books and more" on this site. dan's book "the lost art of steam heating" has a great section on vacuum systems. does it look anything like this? i've got one like this that we maintain and i'm still trying to get it dialed in right. rob
