hello we have a 2 zone baseboard system with our buderus g115 and a lt 160 tank we just got the new 2107 out door reset control. now the installer put bother my basebord loops on 1 thermostat and each zone has it's own 007 pump

all baseboard pipes are insulated would it be better to junk the t-stat and get the bfu room sensor and go with constant circulation. or would it use less oil keeping what i have i am trying to squeeze as efficiency out of my new boiler as much as possible and i would hope the indoor reset would save me more oil then what i am using now

thank you all and happy holidays

    Why??

Why would he put both zones on one t-stat, and not keep it with two? to do this you have to have a two zone switching relay to run the zones being powered by the logamatic 2107 from the 63 terminal....David

yes it is on a taco zone relay and i told him i did not like the 2 zones it seems like the boiler just ran way to much and it ran less when he put the 2 cerc together on 1 t stat the rooms feel almost the same i don't use one side of the house much anyway but it's only 1 deg difference

Indoor reset is wonderful. I have the 2107 with room sensor and the constant circ is a sight to behold. The thing is pretty smart.

have you ever had a on and off t-stat type heating if so do you now see a difference with the bfu do you save oil

my heating load is 50,000 BTU and my boiler is 85,000 but my contractor said he uped it a tad for better hot water or if i ever want to add on to my house i can. but some times after a call for heat it will turn on for 3 Min's to bring the temp up in the boiler because it thinks it cold outside my old boiler would run for 9 Min's on a call for heat every hour because my house is well insulated this boiler takes 9 Min's but then run for 3 Min's again i know it's not much but i was hoping to save with this boiler

    thank you

    pros and cons

for best efficiency, constant circ with the bfu. IF you don't occupy the other zone much, have that zone lag behind off of the Taco SR control. BUT, if you occupy the whole house, run both zones together. You could even choke the flow down in the secondary zone for lower temp. But constant circ will keep you from the dreaded "stand by losses".

It's a little silly in my opinion to run the 2107 without: rads with TRV, or non-trv systems (typically baseboard systems or a radiant floor)without the BFU. You'll get lots of cycling in the shoulder seasons, wasting money in fuel.

thanks Gary so what your saying is since i have the 2107 i may as well have him install the bfu room sensor and put both pumps on constant circulation.

now my boiler may run more often but for less time right?
so it may not save me in oil? it's the chance i take right?

    yes, sort of

It's a little confusing I know. You'll run your pumps more often for sure, but that's only 70 or 80 watts each or so, peanuts I think.

If anything, you should use LESS fuel this way. There's no magic here, obviously the temp you keep the two zones at is king here. So, apples to apples, same temp vs. same temp, the constant circ will easily consume LESS fuel if you run the 2107 w/ bfu.

HOWEVER, if you play with the second zone tstats like a yo-yo, the comparison isn't black and white anymore.

If you tell me you specific thermostat habits, and if you're will to bend these habits, I can confirm what I'm trying to recommend.

hi Gary i use one t stat and the 2 zones are only 2deg difference witch is ok i like the other room cooler anyway because i don't use it much. i don't do any set back i keep the house at 73 all day and night but if i had the bfu i would use the set for 3 deg my brother is very sick and he is blind so i have to keep the house worm for him.

thank you very much for your help Gary we appreciate it my goal is to save oil :-) because the prices are going up

    excellent

I highly recommed tieing both circs to the 2107, use the bfu in the prominent zone, and if the second zone is warmer than you desire, simply create a small amount of resitance on the circ to that zone. Don't forget to change the room comp to 18 when you utilize the BFU.

This might be splitting hairs, But you could even utilize the Taco SR (yes, 63 to ZC OR simply power the Taco off of the 63, there's enough amps for several circs), keeping the second zone tstat maxed out (it's the same as what we just discussed). It would allow you to have more control if you wanted even lower temps in the other zone.

    Good night, Gary
