Site for Oil Burner Service?
Can anyone refer me to an oil burner troubleshooting forum?
Got a burner that dribbles on after turning off for a few seconds -- put in an oil valve and all it does is delay the ignition, blowing up the dribbling oil. Not a pretty thing.
Any help would be appreciated.0 -
Thanks for the kind words, Dan.

dripping oil
Where did you put the oil valve? If you used an oil line solenoid, it should have solved your oil after-drip. If not you have may have a small leak in the nozzzle tube or a cracked nozzle adapter that's letting in air.

Read your post on oil tech, the last time I had a burner act that violently wasn't from the oil dip, the pump actually pinned my 300psi gauge on start up then would simmer down and run fine at 100 psi until the next startup.Actually I ruined two gauges that morning before I realized what was happening. Don't know if thats your problem but a good place to start.

remember the old check valve pin?
for oil nozzles ? its back in a new disguise with what looks like fancier trappings...
The best help you can find today would be someone who knows what it is they are looking at as after burn and dripping is only a symptom and it escalates from there into a syndrom.it may not take very long at all to burn your home down with a cracked nozzel holder or the wrong temps or draft in conjunction with a stripped nozzel holder on the gun. for example.
some older burners may not even be worth the trouble of fixing,...were this a residential size boiler or furnace i would suggest a new burner designed for this century and a re cleaning of the boiler and stack . if the oil is leaking from the nozzel holder connection you might be able to torque it down a bit if its a hairline crack ,that doesnt show as a carbon line, you might be hard pressed too even See it....
to me it sounds like a definite leak. Oil Tech Talk Is probably the Best forum for service techs. Ask at HVAC lots of furnace workers service oil burners....You will likely get the same or similar answers though. *~/:)

Thanks...
Thanks for the kind replies and for taking a look at my post on oiltech...
Today I'll substitute a new nozzle tube. That's what I suspect; otherwise the valve should hold back the oil in that tube. Without air getting in behind the nozzle somewhere it couldn't drip.
I do appreciate the help gentlemen, and thanks, Dan, for the wonderful Wall -- always there when I need some kind advise.
