sooted heatexchanger

Years ago, had a oil burner guy tell me that he used simple green or something like that to break down the build up. Cant remember what, its a long distance call now, IF he is still in the Kittas valley in Washington state... Ya out there Reg? We are looking for something cleaner than the vac and brush method, but short of a new boiler. (Oh, and no offence Tundra, BUT Jim IS a pro. Just looking to improve.) The other grumpy...

There was an error rendering this rich post.

I have an older Hydrotherm nat. boiler that is all sooted up throughout its c.i. heatexchanger. The reason is dog hair and lint as the boiler is in a laundery room where dogs are kept.Any ideas on how to properly clean the boiler and how to prevent future occurences would be greatly appreciated.

    brush the pups

rip it out and put in a real boiler. a BURNHAM. and don't forget to brush the puppies every day. they will love it.

Good- call a pro, watch him then decide if this is a job you want to tackle next time. You will need a few hand tools a boiler brush and a soot vacuum (most shop vacs will do).

Better- Replace the boiler with a new high efficiency cold start boiler on outside air. Outside air is the only way to protect yourself from the dog hair and lint.
