Water Pressure Dropping

Hi, I have a hot water radiant system with and oil furnace. The Columbian oil furnace does dual duty and is also my hot water supplier. My Question... The water pressure in the system drops...I manually fill the system to about 20 to 23lbs of pressure and by the fourth night its down to about 7 lbs of pressure. I do have a feed water pressure regulator valve, but I dont use it because I was told by the original home owner the he filled it manually, so that is what i got used to. I do want to start to use the feed valve to regulate the pressure, but I am conserned about a possibe leak in the system because of the drop in pressure. Is there anyway to tell if there is a leak (there is no visable signs of one anywere)?

Possable leak
James sounds like you have some tubing in a poured floor (in concreate). If possable isolate the zone from the other zones by shutting off ball valves if possable to see if the pressure holds. If it does you have got your answer.
I would call in a pro. to pin point it and repair, it will be worth the money.
Stick with it and gget it fixed, you don't want to keep putting fresh water into your bioler.0 -
do you have a bladder expansion tank or the older style
If you have the old style, alot of times what happens is they get water logged, and then no place for the water to expand when it is heated, and it will weep out of the relief valve. If you have not drained it in a while, try that. Also, put a small bucket under the relief and see if you are collecting any water0 -
Older style epansion tank
Thanks for the quick responses...A little more info for you guys...I said it was a rediant system when what I ment to say was that it is a radiator system in a two story colonial with the furnace in the basement. When I add the water manually I have to blead the highest radiator. It releases air then hot water does come out the blead valve. On to your sugestion about the expansion tank. Do you think its worth replacing the older style expansion tank with the newer style tank that has the bladder inside? I think that is something i can do myself. I do all my own pluming anyway. Thanx0
