I visited with a man who works for a local distributor last week. He invited The News to see how he was showing off the hydronic system he installed in his home, which was up for sale.

He invited all of his customers to bring along a builder to see how he had installed the combination radiant floor, hydronic heating system (and driveway snowmelt) in his home. The idea was to show that a system could be installed at an affordable price and he demonstratefd the comfort of the system. The builders were offered a discount on some of the products just be showing up at the open house.

He did a nice job of presenting the system, along with product literature and a schematic of the complete system. He also invited the media -- another smart move. It just showed how a little imagination went a long way in selling hydronic systems.

I'd be happy to hear what other people are doing, too.

The funny thing is...

... some homes have all that "Gee-whiz stuff", are built well, in a good location, etc. and still won't sell.

Case in point, the local home on Brattle Street that Bob Vila used to live in has all sorts of bells and whistles, including driveway snow melt. Yet it won't sell and has been on the market for months. Allegedly, some people walk into the basement, see all those systems and start getting headaches re: the maintenance of it all.

I agree though that the best way to show people the tangible benefit of RFH and other hydronic technologies is to put it in front of them, so they can touch and feel it, rather than just trying to rationalize the benefits vs. the costs. It's a great feeling to warm your toes on the floor when its cold outside.

Did you say he had the solar hot water and radiant cooling with the wind generator and back up battery system showing at the same time , or was this a Winter sale?
