Basic question re installing vents

You need to go to a supply house and get a 1/8 inch NPT pipe tap. Be careful to keep it straight while threading it in and out. Don't just go in without backing it out several times as you tap and DO NOT allow it to bottom out and crack your section of rad.

Especially where the threads are damaged
I have a radiator that won't accept a new vent... the one that is on it now is dinky (a highly technical term) and noisy, and I have a Hoffman and a Gorton I want to try out, before buying 6-8 of them. They won't twist into place at all, leading me to believe that the internal threads in the radiator are damaged. How does one repair internal threads?
Thanks in advance...0
