Domestic steam pipe insulation

Old house in Massachusetts with natural gas fired steam heat from a converted coal burner. Had all of the asbestos insulation removed and pipes are now exposed, costing a fortune......
What is the best solution to insulating the pipes? Glass fiber molded to pipe diameter? Or can I use the foam stuff?
I'm thinking the foam is not the answer - none of the home centers carry 2 inch diameter. Any suggestions?
