Getting screwed

that suggest that we need to get even with some of our clients - kick them in the clackers as it were - this notion is just wrong. We are in business to help people - not to cause them harm or aggravation. This client changed his/her mind; for reasons only known to the client - invoice fairly for work done and move on. If you can't handle that - get out of the business and go fishing.

getting screwed!!!
If a latenight service call turns into a boiler replacement. After the customer gives the ok to replace their boiler and the pre installation work begins, should the xcustomer decide to go with another contractor for whatever reason do you bill them for you time?0 -
-
you absolutely bill them for ALL of your time. and make sure you bill them damn good. some of these deadbeat customers you want to just beat them into the ground. i bet they sure as hell get paid for everything they do and don't do. they have unreal gaul.0 -
You get paid for EVERYTHING.
If they balk, lein the house.0 -
Abso.effing. lutely.
Milage, time, gas, and last but not least, overtime rates for the call.
I do. Do you notice the 100% agreement in the other responders.

My advice would be to not start a boiler replacement until the customer has signed some sort of contract making them liable for the work, and including any pre-lien notice that your state may require in order to protect your lien rights.0 -
Half up front, cleared in our account.
Or NOTHING happens in the basement.
I ain't getting burned again.0 -
??
HUH? what they think they shouldn't pay? they pay the easy way (write check) or our laywer makes them pay the hard way.

Bill for everything!!!
Because you do a good job in the pre-installation work and laying out the job, that makes it easy for someone that merely knows how to put pipe together to step in and pipe in a new boiler. A handyman can knock off a lot from the price after everything is laid out for him! Don't feel guilty about charging, the design and prep work is the hard part, we don't "throw it in" just to get the replacement job, we paid dearly for our knowledge. If you don't charge the handyman or next guy is "throwing in" your knowledge. Wait and see, they may call you back to straighten the job out, some people have nerve to, fully charge then too!0 -
Keep my card
It is amazing how many projects I have lost that end up calling us to come straighten out their system that we originally bid on only to have them go with another contractor. Oh, BTW the other contractor was always less expensive. I hate when people pay good money for a system that they have issues with and end up paying more money for us to correct those issues.
It isn't always "You get what you pay for, you get what you didn't pay for."0 -
yes -
invoice as per your companies policies for this type of late night call. And then add them to your dead beats list - this may feel like salt in the wound - but always treat you clients in the first class manner that you expect back.0 -
Send them a bill that will rattle their teeth.
