Open the installation instruction and look at the manafactors minuim near boiler piping and follow or exceed there specs in sizing .Go to books and more and pick up a copy of dans lost art of steam .The biggest reason for steam boiler cracks are inproper piping with no swing joints the risers going to the header causing stress on the tappings and boiler section from the different expansion rates of steel and cast iron .Using both tappings on a steam boiler and increasing there size will slow the existing velocity of the steam from your system and a properly sized or over sized header will further slow the velocity and give you drier steam which means less moisture more btu's to your rads .There's alot to learn and nobody knows it all read read search search and study study peace clammy

steam boiler take off
On a steam boiler are both take offs to be used to the header and of course why? Many are plugged and only one is used.I used the under 150,000 plug one side off.A friend is using both taps on any size due to boilers cracking after 5-7 years.any comments?
