Glen Stanton, please help.
Just thinking a bit more about your symptoms. Do you have a Low Water Cutoff installed on the supply pipe to this system. It may be picking up some air passing through the system, is grounding out or is becoming airbound somehow and is locking the power off to the boiler. By resetting the power you are resetting it again until it happens again. Once again this is a system issue and not so much a boiler issue.

Glen Stanton, please help - Revolution shut down
Mr. Stanton,
I have a 2 yr old Revolution and it stopped working today! No problems until recently when twice I had to reset it by turning off the power and turning it back on - these events were about 2 weeks apart. This had never happened in the previous 22 months since it was installed. At those 2 times I had zones calling for heat but the boiler had shut itself down - the aquastat in the boiler cabinet was reading below 120 and the calls for heat were not being satisfied - power off - wait 5 seconds - power on and it fixed the problem.
Today the aquastat is bottomed-out at 70 and the primary loop is stone cold. The power on/off reset doesn't solve it this time. The circulators have power and are running in response to the thermostat's call for heat but no boiler activity. The blinking geen light on the circuit board in the cabinet does not come on - no 'click' when power is restored. One odd thing was that the last time it shut itself down (1 week ago) the aquastat had condensation on the inside of the glass - has since gone away.
The system is a brand new primary/secondary set-up with 3 zones of radiant and 3 baseboard - variable speed injection - outdoor reset - argo/tekmar/grunfos components. I have been having some problems with the junk Wirsbo 2-wire thermostats, but I don't see how that could be related.
NEWSFLASH - I had the power to the system totally shut off for the last 45 - 60 minutes - I just went downstairs, turned the power back on and it fired up - very disconcerting. I don't want to blame your boiler prematurely, but it seems like one of the boiler's shut down sensors (wind?, flame roll out?, etc.) may be the source of the problem, but I'm just a builder, not a hydronics expert.
Any advice??
Thank you.

Revolution Boiler
I just checked into a hotel in Poughkeepsie, NY for the night and just read your message. This does not sound like a problem with the boiler at all. It sounds like a problem with your system low voltage circuitry. To test this we would normally advise the technician to isolate the thermostat wire that comes from your zoning panel or other controls to the junction box of our boiler to create the call for heat to the boiler. Some common things we find may involve one of the micro-relays inside the Argo zoning panel being a bit loose in its socket or possible a loose wire connection. If you have external Tekmar controls, you could have a loose connection on that control or a bad supply or outdoor sensor. By isolating all of the system control wiring away from the boiler and creating a manual call for heat to the boiler, you can isolate whether it is a boiler problem or a system problem. Hope this helps.

Vent Damper???
Is there a vent damper on this unit - maybe the vent damper is not proving open therefore the signal to the burner is not complete but circulators can run. Just a thought!0 -

Sorry
Just trying to help out. I should have know that Glenn would have suggested that!!!0 -
Joe
The Revolution is a direct vent boiler....no vent damper. Based on the fact that the variable speed injection board is not being activated, I suspect either the T-T connection is not being made from the system wiring or a possible problem with the high limit. The ONLY way we will be able to determine which one is happening is to isolate the call for heat and try and bridge T-T manually.

Thanks!
Thanks for the information. I respect, admire and appreciate your efforts! Hopefully the situation can be found and resolved.0 -
just installed
just installed a new revolution in my house, a old cast iron (1890) system with radiators. have found that the boiler is working up to expectations. have installed in-door outdoor-door reset controls and it is working very well. next time it won't fire, take wires off y-y for thermostat and try to start boiler manualy.if boiler starts, it is in your other controls.0
