shimming radiator

my head hurt after this one, some calls you can't forget, lady in Deep River, 200yr old house, had her floors done, came out nice cept one radiator, they couldn't get the union back on at the valve going into the radiator, I sat on the floor trying to shim it, realizing I was going backwards, the pipe would not move and I was on the 2nd floor, bashing out the 1st floor ceiling was not an option, trying to repipe was not an option, raising the rear of this 1 pipe radiator did not help, then I had a thought, what if I could lower the floor, the new floor was thicker and that was the problem.
So I carefully traced the legs on the floor of the supply side, measured my height problem at the valve, I needed 3/16th, I moved the radiator and CAREFULLY routed the floor where I marked it 3/16th of an inch deep, I slid the radiator back and,..to my own amazement it fit!!!!!Jesus Christ there is a god!!! not only that I had a nice pitch because the back legs were still on the floor and the legs fit right in the hole so even if you got on the floor you couldn't see it.
That took a lot longer to figure out than a few minutes, hence the headache.
Hope that helps you and anyone else

shimming radiator
I had three radiators that needed to be shimmed to allow for proper drainage. The first two were easy. The last one seems impossible. My system is two pipe. I can't "lift" the right side of the radiator to get shims under the feet. Has anyone had this problem? Any tricks to fixing it? Does this mean I'll need to have someone add some length to the supply side pipe to raise that end or cut some length from the return side pipes to lower it?0 -
