Radiator heat reflectors

a GREAT application for bubble foil bubble insulation. Go here..

Use double sided tape to stick it to the walls behind the rads. You'll probably have to use a broom stick in order to reach the nether regions behind the radiators.

    Radiator heat reflector

I have a 100 year old house that has oil fired one pipe steam heat. As you can image there is no insulation in the walls. Will reflector panel placed behind the radiator help reduce heat loss? Can anyone tell me a supply house in the NYC/Long Island area that stocks them?

    Thanks,

Reflective panels definitely will help reduce heat loss.

I used to tape aluminum foil behind my radiators. The difference is dramatic. Without foil the walls behind the radiators were hot. With foil, the walls remained cool (the heat was being reflected away from the wall and into the room). I have heard people recommend using aluminized mylar instead of aluminum foil because the mylar is better looking.

I don't know of a supply house where you can get reflective panels, but I'm sure that someone else will soon post with recommendations.

3-M "Super 66" spray adhesive is good for such things. Apply ONLY to whatever you're using for a reflector and let dry. You can apply, re-position and remove yet it stays stuck for a long time. Apply to both surfaces and it's permanent.
