This home (c. 1922)had 16 cast iron radiators and a connected load of 60K BTU's. It used 31/2" steel mains. We found the right conversion bushings at the local Marine hardware. The make-over includes a Viessmann Vitogas 100 boiler with V300-53g indirect, Vitotronic 200 and a 1" 4 way mixing valve with system bypass and PBD. It does look a little weird to connect a 1" device to 31/2" mains but it works!!

We re-valved all the radiators with TRV's. This home should see significant reduction in their energy usage. The existing boiler chimney flue vent was 12" and the flue was uninsulated. We installed an insulated 6" SS liner. The boiler really performs optimimally when the flue is insulated!!
