come tomorrow night when it start to short cycle, take the
stat and raise it the highest it will go.

Then you'll know if its the stat or if your distribution system or rads are not being vented properly.

My money on too much air in the system or the boiler to big.

What is the pressurtrol setting? Is the system clean? Is the water line stable?

    Short cycling

99 per cent of short cycling is caused by the anticipation setting on the thermostat. This setting is on the thermostat itself. It regulates the voltage to fuel valve on the boiler. This setting is very critical for any heating plant operation, especially on steam boilers. It is the most overlooked setting on any heating operation. The anticipator setting tells the fuel valve when to open and close as the boiler is running. It anticipates when the stat will be satisfied with the set temperature. If you are using a manual stat take off the cover and look for a slide bar or dial that has tenths markings (.3-.4-.5 etc). Those are .4 volts, .5 volts etc. Increase that setting higher to lengthen the cycle. It is best to only increase one-tenth at a time. Let the boiler run once or twice and note the cycle time. It is best to increase the anticipator setting high enough to have the boiler run up temperature one degree higher then the set temp. Thus making the boiler more economical. That is, while you are making steam, you might as well use that steam. If you are using a programmable stat check the instruction manual as how to set the anticipator setting.
