Do air vents on 1-pipe steam radiators tend to fail completely or is their failure gradual? I've pulled some vents and can get air through them but I was wondering if the flow is restricted relative to a new air vent?

    How old are they? How old are the main vent on the system?

    You really should not have to replace them can be cleaned.my system if I hear some hissing going on I will start by cleaning the main vents and go from there until I don't hear anymore hissing coming from the rads.
