electronic thermostat for steam heat

i have a standard thermostat now with the metal coil on the inside with the anticipator (i think that is the term) you can adjust.

i am getting tired of having to remember to turn the heat down at night and up in the morning. i would like to get a program-able digital one, but i know from reading you can't just throw any one on willy-nilly.

i have 1 pipe steam heat. no centeral air. i would like to have the ability to put it on a temp for the day and lower it at night. so just basic.

i did a search, but maybe i was too fine, since i put in steam as a requirement. anyone have a recommendation of one i can find at the local hardware store, lowes or HD?

thanks!

    Digital Stats

ALmost any digital programable t-stat is fine as long as your system is not a mili-volt system. This would need a different style of dry contacts to work over long periods of time. Choose one that is easy for you to operate and understand. Go to Honeywell.com for a wide range of products. And no I'm not a Honeywell rep:)

    Try our TH8110 U or TH6110U...

The TH8110 U is a seven day, touch-screen programmable, battery powered, and compatible with steam, hydronic, forced air, gas or oil fired, or up to 1 stage heat, 1stage cool heat pump. The TH6110u is a 5&2 day, pushbutton programmable, with the same capabilities, but with fewer features at a lower price. Both are trade models available from your local contractor. Make sure either is set for steam, since out of the box they're set for 6 cycles per hour for forced air. You want 1 cph for steam.

    I second the motion!

The Honeywell VISIONPro 8110 is the only stat we install now! Very easy to program, very user friendly, great quality!

    TH6110

looks like the one i would go for at the price of about $60. i don't need that many extras that the 8110 gives you for basically double the price. i guess my only question is this thing too complicated for the diy installer? the one i have now is a simple manual with a wire or two. will i be able to handle installing this being mechanically inclined?

    6110 considered professional?

i just read on the honewell web site that the 6110 focuspro or the vision pro are considered "professional installation". under the DIY section they just have simple 5-2 or 5-1-1 models with no model number. i guess those are designed more for the diy installer, yes?
