not sure how to tie this in

I took pictures of it. How do I tie in the returns and the outlet of the differential loop? First time dealing with one. Hopefully I don't have to rip anything out it took all day.

    ok

I am going to put in a vaporstat and get rid of the loop. Install 1 or 2 gorton # 2's where the diff loop is now.

    Whoa, Dan

no need for the Sawzall approach.

The side opening of this version of the Loop is also the high point of the dry return (in most cases, I've seen one or two exceptions). The vent in the top of the Loop is also the vent for the dry return. In almost all cases this is the only venting point in the entire system. The steam mains are vented with radiator traps which route air to the dry return.

That vent looks like a Hoffman #5 or #6, and is way too small for this type of service. You need at least a Gorton #2. The original vent was a Hoffman #11, which had a 3/4-inch opening all the way thru it. The Gorton #2 is the only current-model vent that even comes close to the #11.

The line connecting to the top of the Loop goes to the steam piping. Usually it was teed off one of the risers from the boiler header.

The Loop has no moving parts in it, and will outlast all of us. I'd leave it in place. It can serve as a backup for your Vaporstat, so if the pigtail gets plugged it will make sure the water can still return to the boiler.

You also want to check to see that all the traps on this system are working, including the crossovers at the ends of the mains if used. You can get replacement innards from Tunstall or Barnes & Jones.

    ok

I didn't get rid of it yet but is there any point in leaving it If I piped it wrong? I won't havr the steam side of it tied in if I leave it because i didn't leave a tee off for it when I piped the header. If I don't have to take it apart I don't want to. And thank you for answering it is greatly appreciated.

Pipe your tee for the steam supply to the Loop

off one of the steam main connections above the header.
