In my area of CT 25% savings your savings depends on your climate. For every three degrees you can lower water temp you WILL save one percent. You should absolutely be heating on a curve with an outdoor reset control

    Outdoor reset & boiler efficiency

I'm having a 92% efficient Munchkin installed with indirect HW, but not with the Vision 1 system. What will the efficiency drop off be without the outdoor reset function?

And does anyone know what the Vision 1 costs? My contractor has installed Munchkins, but not the V1 system yet.

    Thanks for your help.

Best analogy I can think of at the moment

Buying ANY modulating/condensing boiler without some type of reset is like buying a Corvette with little skinny tires on it. The potential is there but you can't harness it without the proper running gear. The Vision 1 package is not that expensive and it's easy to install. Tell your guy to get trained and install it.

  • Absolutely right on. It's a one day class. I know homeowners who have taken the class.

The HTP vision I is the easiest outdoor reset we have ever installed. It comes w/ all munchkins, you just need a coulpe wires and sensors.

Youve put a nice little boiler in your house. Why not max. eff. w/ vision I?

    random numbers

Get the vision 1. The training is easy and the installer could take your numbers into the training class and get your reset curve worked out right on the spot.

As for efficiency, it really does depend on a number of things. The lower the return water temperarure, the more energy you extract out of the combustion process. With ambient return water temps, efficiencies over 98% have been seen in the real world. Oddly, outdoor reset makes more of a difference on high temp systems than on low temp radiant, since there are more gains from 140 return system than 120 return system on design day.

There are some studies that have put the average savings for outdoor reset at 10-15%, but the details of your system make the range much wider.

Even if there wasn't a penny of savings, I would still recommend outdoor reset. It will make your house much more comfortable. There will be no disappointment there, and that will be almost independent of system type.
