Checked my roof for solar today

pitch is 52 degrees, off of true south by just ten degrees, lat is 39.59.635 degrees.
Shadows play a larger role than I would have guessed and the upper roof, although not that much of an increase in height, casts one long shadow after 3:30 PM.
Lots of room left in sunshine though(G).
The plot thickens.

Get your hands on
a pathfinder. My solar PV buddy has one. It looks like a 1/2 of a crystal ball and tracks the suns movement and looks at shade issues. Pretty simple but unique tool. Need to get one if you get solar serious. www.solarpathfinder.com
Actually the panel on my house faces due north on a very shallow 2/12 pitch roof. I still get enough sun on it to provide 135° degrees worth on summer days! Even with limited sunshine.
All the components were used takoffs so I figured what the heck, I'll take whatever solar energy I get.
You will get hooked once you start playing with hydronic solar energy systems

Finally got my roof rack installed....
I'm almost ready to start hoisting (UGH) solar panels up to the roof. Probably start humping them up there next weekend.
I'm going to monitor this puppy till the cows come home. Mass flow, delta T, solar insolation, blah blah blah blah blah...
The wife just realized I was up to something. She thougt I meant our mountain home when I told her I'd gotten some solar collectors... boy is SHE going to be suprised:-)
Can't wait to take my first free hot solar shower in a long time. Also can't wait to see the affect it has on the gas meter...

flow transducers
ME,
who's flow units are you using? The ultrasonic ones seem the nicest but seem to also cost a bundle.
thanks,
