Check your home over also. Is there any place else that could help you save money? New more efficient window's, more insulation or sealing drafts? Look at the total picture..IMHO

with the price of oil so high

would it pay for me to replace my 13 year old Weil-Mclain hot water, 68 boiler P-468U-wt (151,000 btu/hr) . I use about 1000 gal of heating oil per year to heat a 2400 sqft ranch in southern NY. Normally I would never consider it but with the price of oil close to $2/gal... I'm thinking it might be a smart move to put in a newer higher efficency model.
I would like to hear from someone that can calculate what my savings would be per year using the assumption that fuel oil will stay around $2.00/gal

    Thanks for your input,
    Don

There's more to it than that

To get any kind of meaningful result, we would need to start with a proper heat-loss calculation of your house. This would have to be done on-site, and would reveal whether your W-M is oversized like a lot of equipment is, and by how much.

Also remember that once the boiler heats the water, its job is done. From that point the system must move the heat to the rooms. Depending on what is now there, you might be able to make some changes that would result in more savings.

Try the Find a Professional page of this site to locate someone near you who can do all this for you.

Probably one of the best boilers ever made. A nice new Carlin burner maybe worth the investment but if its in good shape leave it. Anything on the boiler can be fixxed in no time. I wish they would start making them again.
