Heat gain in counter area

I visited a new business today that just moved into a newly constructed mini-shopping center. On the counter was a fan blowing on the counterperson. Odd for a brand new building. He said the front room, which has a window facing East acting as an entire wall, would not cool down and the back room was too cold. Hmmm, I thought to myself, sounds like the installing contractor didn't do his homeowrk on load calcs and heat gain/loss from the windows. These poor people will have the opposite problem in winter. What is the advice I should give to them? Contact the landlord? Get another estimate? Bugger off?

    can it

be fixed with dampering to adjust the ditribution? Is htere return air in the front part? both? rear only? have they complained to the landlord?

As to what you should do, I can't say. I woulod need to see the system to determine if its an easy enough fix (ie finished ceiling?)

Ask the landlord if he'll pay for a consult...all mind work, no labour.

    heat gain at window

Always a problem, John, but Mitch is right...try a system balance first to see if it solves the problem . Sounds like too much air flow out back and not enough out front. If that doesn't do the trick, someone should recalculate the load to verify proper system sizing/distribution.
