Pine floors over radiant staple up?

We are trying to decide between slate tile (very expensive) and wide pine floors. I have heard that pine can cup and crack with the radiant but others have been problem free. Thanks for all of the help with the design of our system (previous threads).

    Staple-Up with pine

I'd check out pre-engineered wide plank flooring by Launstein, Khars or Junkers. Wide plank pine is available from Rappgo.com Surface panel temps should be checked using a software program designed for radiant flooring.

I'd make sure transfer plates are part of the tubing plan, as central Vermont will require more BTU's per sq. ft. Most design applications will assure that surface panel temps do not exceed 85 degrees on the coldest day of the year.

    wide pine

We have done several of these jobs with good results. Just remember that the closer to the floor the tubing is, the lower the temp needed in the system. We've used both QuikTrac and a sleeper system and have had no problems. Have no experience with staple up in this application.

    wide plank pine

Please remember to consult the flooring manufacturer for their input. The Oak Flooring Manufacturer's association does not recommend wide planks of solid wood. This has nothing to do with RFH either. The dryness of the material, relative humidity, and the type of cut al affect the performance of the flooring. BTW slate tile is also not to be installed without considering the movement of the subfloor.
