3 zone wiring

Argo zone control center. It looks nicer than just bare wiring and is compatible with all thypes of zone valves. It even has pretty lights to let you know what's going on. Pays for itself in time saved and aspirin taken for headaches. WW

Where are you having the most trouble?

Is it with the different types of zone valves, or is it with the thermostats, or the wireless specifically? Also which Honeywell Zone valve do you have, the one with wire pigtails or screw terminals?

The honeywell zone valve is the model with 5 screw terminals.the problem is the mixing of the taco 3 wire valves and the other with 5 terminals.

    Look at it this way,

1 and 2 on the Taco are the same as the TH-TR terminals. They power up the motor. Go from the transformer to the number one terminal onto the thermostat and then to terminal 2. Terminals 2 and 3 are the same as 'end switch', they switch the relay.

This material is found in several of our books, but you're right, we're about the only one out there that shows them combined. If you need a wiring diagram e-mail me I have one ready-to-go.

    Good luck!

Ok so far,but why is there a transformer in the aquastat?the drawings show what appears to be an external transformer.

    It has to do with

    amperage load.

The L8124 (or L8148) A models will handle a couple of Honeywell zone valves, after that you need to size by VA. With this job I would have an external 40VA and the internal due to the Taco zv's.

The zone panel is a great idea, but it may be hard to sell if this job has worked without it, FACT!

I understand you can run 3 zone valves on 1 40 va transformer. The argo panel may be the way out as its a replacement boiler and was never zoned before,ie:still add to cost of total job.thanks for the info.

    Taco zonevalves

    Good Morning
Taco's unique 3 wire zonevalves work the same as 4 wire zonevalves, utilizing only three terminals. Terminal 2 is a twofold terminal where two wires are placed, part of it is the power side, and the other part is the isolated end switch. This does cause some confusion out in the field but if you look at it from my perspective it provides job security, because I do the technical support. Anyway, there is also the VA requirement that adds to the confusion. If you do the math volts X amps = VA required. Three Taco zonevalve at .9 amps 24v= 64.8 va required. However, taco zonevalve are intermitting type, so we advocate 3 zonevalves per 40 VA transformer. This should help you with wiring taco zonevalve with any other zonevalve 1, and 2 power terminals, 23 end switches. To facilitate wiring, daisy chain the end switches in parallel down to the boiler TT terminals.
