This is something you shouldn't try to do yourself if you don't know how. It's as easy as pie...for someone trained and experienced in the trade. Call a technician. Five gallons will not be enought to start and keep it running and it may have plugged up the filter or nozzle. There is simply too much that can go wrong. Don't chance it.

Oil burner ran dry, need help starting.

I'm house sitting at my brothers. He heats his hot water with an oil burner. The tank went dry. I have 5 gals that I put in but she won,t fire when I hit the reset. I tried calling several places for a delivery no one even returned my call. Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to get this burner fired. I have a wife and 3 kids with me and we are on day 3.
    Thanks

John, if you haven't done so already

get in touch with your brother and find out who he deals with. I'm sure they'd come out to a regular customer's house, even if the customer himself is not there.

They must be away or something. I got a hold of someone else who said they will be here in an hour, I have my fingers crossed.

    Thanks for the help

they must be away ?? the oil heating and service business is open 24-7 365 --our customers have the office # which after administration closes shop--gets routed to an answering service, round the clock-the better customers have the owners home #,cell# and myself and 1 other techs# it would take less than 1/2 hr to get a call back and get the ball rolling to help our customers get back up and running//we live for this stuff --must be a fly-by-night --
