Boiler side arm

My steam boiler has about 35% additional capacity. It was suggested to use some of that capacity to heat domestic hot water. I read an article from 1999 abour a Boiler Side Arm. The theory seems pretty simplistic, however this article was referring to a hot water system, not steam. I have two gas water heaters in series and was going to just let the cold water feed pass through the side arm to pick up some of the heat. The water heaters will maintain proper temperature. It would work as a pre-heater. Ideas/ thoughts, input?

honestly
I dont think its even worth the effort with the hot water heaters seperate. you can turn down the steam boiler. otherwise your running all three all year round0
