Looking for a steam heating expert

Our small Boston home has steam heat and its original 1925 oil furnace (coverted to gas). We've had some plumbers suggest that iur system needs to be replaced, some who think it works fine. Some who think it's inefficient, some who think it works well. After reading Dan's books, I'm pretty sure that none of them knew how steam really works.

We've read Dan's books, understand them, but also realize that no book reading will make up for years of experience in understanding what the knocks, cracks, and hisses coming from our basment and pipes really mean.

Do our radiator vents need to be replaced? What about the main pipe vents? How's our water PH? Are we losing water too fast? If you have experience dealing with these issues, we'd love to hear from you. Feel free to email, or respond on this page.
