Richardson System Venting

What would be a good air vent to replace an original Richardson tee style main vent? Very few vapor/vacuum systems around here so I'm a little in the dark on venting the mains on these type systems.

    That was a classic system

but if the vents have never been changed, it's probably still set up for coal firing.

With automatic firing- oil or gas- you need more venting capacity, and you need venting on the ends of the steam mains as well as the dry returns where the original vents were.

I think the closest match for the original Richardson vents is the Gorton #2. For the steam mains you'll have to measure them out to see how much air is in them. Then go to

to buy a copy of the latest info on vent capacities- with the proceeds going to charity.

You may have to drill and tap the ends of the steam mains to vent them, but it's worth the effort.
