    Hydronic system with NO Electricity

I have project to install a hydronic system for two AMISH families. We will have radiant in-floor and some baseboard heat. However there is no electricity available in the house. We will have compressed air in the house. Has anyone put system together for any Amish families? Are there any circulation pumps with air motors? We will be using a outdoor wood boiler as the heating source. Any help will greatly apperciated.
    Thanks

    no electricity heat

I can resist...how are you going to make compressed air???
There are all kinds of air motor pumps, but remember, a circulator is not a pump, it's a motion machine. I've never seen or heard of this application, but if there is, I'm all ears.....teach us something new!!!

    One idea

take the motor off an old B&G series 100 and bolt on a pneumatic motor. Heck a small air impact or butterfly ratchet would probably easily spin a small circ pump. Those are easiy to find and cheap to buy at Harbor Freight type places :)

Most pneumatic motors or drives are fairly noisey. Probably some way to muffle that exhaust noise.

    How about using

gravity circulation? This would require large pipes but is doable. Or, if you're not locked into in-floor radiant, using steam? Neither of these options require a pump at all.

    I've always been puzzled..........

This is a perfect application for steam or gravity hot water and I don't understand why they (Amish) don't use it. It would be half the cost to run vs the endless space heaters that I see in most Amish houses.

That being said, I have to think you could find an air operated circulator in the Grainger catalog. They have special motors for chicken plucking machines for cryin' out loud!

    Quite common

in neighboring Lancaster County. You want I should check on the source for such a thing?

Believe it or not, the Munchkin is a run-away best-seller for the Amish - so I'm told. Frugal and practical folks. Darned hard workers too.

The electric in the barn with office and phone/fax/computer and no utilities in the home is a fairly common thing. They've evidently drawn the line at utilities between house and barn.

    Some more ideas

from the Library. The main consideration there is unreliable electricity and fuel supply, and everything is way-expensive. But it's not that far away from this topic.......

    Walls?

Hello: I built a gravity system using finned copper tube in the walls. Thermostatic control is via greenhouse window operators... all non electric. If you have a place to store the heat under the living space, gravity might be the thing.

Hello: I built a gravity system using finned copper tube in the walls and greenhouse window operators for control. No electricity needed. As long as the heat can be stored under the living space, gravity works.

    Air Motors

In explosion proof areas it is common to see pumps operated by motors made by a Mfg. called Gast, they also make mufflers for them. bob

    12vDC

    I remember reading in P.&M. about a system using a 12 volt DC motor on a 100 series B&G. John L.
