    Remember Heat Pump Helpers?

They were around years ago. The oil companys would install an oil fired water heater and run a heating loop to a back up heating water coil in the duct work down airstream from the heat pump coil. I realyze this is a type of open system, but if you ran the circ every night would that protect the system from bacteria and Legionella? Thinking about it for a job I'm on. Because of additions to the house the main oil furnace is way over sized. It has an existing heat pump. The family has 7 kids, 3 of which are teenagers. Replacing the furnace with a fan coil for the heat pump would free the chimney up for an oil fired water heater which would give them a lot more hot water and back up the heat pump on really cold days. Only a 30000 btu heat loss at 10 degrees. WW
