moving the furnace

The ductwork is the big ?. Normally, a correctly sized and installed duct system is setup with the duct tapering as it goes away from the furnace to ensure equal pressure through the system. If this is the case in your house, you can't arbitrarily move the furnace to a different location in the duct system without seriously screwing up your air flow.

I guess that brings up another question. Is the duct system going to move along with the furnace? How much of a project are you willing to get into? It sounds to me that in order to be done correctly, you will wind up with a completely redesigned, new duct system.

    moving the furnace

Don't kill me but I'm repeating this question from about june l, my e-mail went away.
I have a big closet that houses the furnace and water heater which really could be used for other things. Where can I move the furnace; to the garage , or build a closet outside? Someone in town suggested the attic, but I don't see myself at 60 climbing up to change the filter!!!thanks for answering again!

Lynne, it is impossible to tell you what to do without looking the situation over. There simply are too many variables to consider. Use the Find a Contractor feature on this site. I'm sure any of the guys would be glad to assist you in evaluating the situation.
    Good luck.
