    Oil vs. gas

We live in northern NJ in a 75-year-old house with a buried oil tank that must be decommissioned. Our furnace is 50 years old, or older, and we want to replace it.
Should we just go with gas heat? (We have gas for oven, dryer already.)
If we do, which gas furnaces are best?
Or should we consider having an oil tank in the basement and getting an oil furnace? (And if so, which oil furnaces are recommended?)
What are the cost, reliability issues here? Also -- if we get rid of old oil furnace, we are concerned about asbestos inside it. Do we need an asbestos abatement guy to take care of this?
Thanks for your advice and guidance.
