Nice story about Denzel Washington

I got this e-mail from a friend of mine today. It shows what length people go to to help others.
"Actor Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC (Brook Army Medical Center, in San Antonio, Texas) the other day. This is where soldiers that have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the States, especially burn victims.
They have buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher House is a hotel where soldiers' families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base but as you can imagine, they are almost completely filled most of the time.
While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his checkbook out and wrote a check for the full amount right there on the spot.
The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it.
I hope you will spread this story."
Consider it done.

And here I was
just thinking he was a great actor. Class act all the way!0 -
Nice story about Denzel Washington
but not entirely correct. Denzel Washington made a contribution but the story seems to have become a little exaggerated.

It would be a wonderful story, if it were true...
... so have a look at: Denzel's visit to the BAMC at snopes.com.
[Edit] Looks like Aidan typed quicker than I... oh well.0 -
Okay
Hard to say who is the most accurate. Ever hear of the National Enquirer?0 -
You're right...
...one should always consider the sources (note the FDR/WWII memorial rumor that made its rounds last year, for example).
At least the snopes entry has references to two newspaper articles with dates, authors, and titles. The feel-good story you posted has...? Try the Houston Chronicle and About.com, etc.0 -
Okay
"Ever hear of the National Enquirer?"
Errr......no. Have I missed much?
It remains a nice true story about Denzel Washington; he gave up his time to visit, thrilled some of the patients and he handed over a cheque. All due credit to Mr. Washington, all film stars please form an orderly queue to do likewise.
I only typed quicker because I don't know how to do that clever stuff with the URL.0 -
What ever he did
I will take one Denzel over a million Jane Fonda's.
ANYDAY!!!!

Pay a visit...
to your local VA or Vets center, leave your checkbook
at home, just bring yourself and some time.
conversation, a cup of coffee and a smoke go a long
way on a lonely weekend.

The other Wall
My goal in the next year is to visit D.C. to spend time at the Vietnam Memorial Wall. That must be an awesome experience.0 -
Whatever he contributed is a fine deed...............
however, it reminds me of the recent oafrah (thats the way I prefer to say her name)"giveaway." Most news clips had us thinking good ol' oafrah "bought" all those new cars for her "lucky" guests..,.then we find out that the car company donated them and the people got stuck pating the sales taxes on the cars. Denzel is another one of those "actors" that get too political for me...shut up and act dude! Hanoi Jane? Will always be a traitor to me...she should've stayed over there for the rest of her days. Why do you think Henry, her dad, didn't speak to her for 20 years? a disgrace! Mad Dog

Heard the audio clip from the traitor today. In it she flat out refused to apologize and called it a "lack of discretion"
I wish it were unbelievable, but its not....
