Insulating Pipes

One of my steam mains runs through a cieling chase in a finished basement with not enough access to apply the traditional pipe insulation but enough access where I could blow in insulation. The main is big (2.5 inches) and 15 feet long, plus a few takeoffs and the return are all in this chase so I figure it's worth trying to insualte. Will blow-in insulation work? Any suggestions on type of insulation?

Insulation....
Sure I see no problem. I would try a small section first to make sure it does not give off odors......0
